cross the forbidden

This painting has been realized for the competition organized by the FM103,3 radio station in 2007, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that station, and it won the competition. It talks about the importance of radio, recalling events I lived in 1986. On the 26th of April 1986 the Tchernobyl accident occurred, and during days the sovietic government did not reveal it. The first true informations came from radios of the West. Only those who had the courage (this was forbidden too) to listen to the heavily blurred radios could get some information. We lived in Kiev, 130 kilometers from the explosion and my father did not hesitate to send us to Moscow by the first possible train, to protect us from the radiations.

Today it is still radio waves which cross the borders of what is forbidden and bring hope to know the truth to those excluded by the power and let into the darkness of ignorance.
