story of red roses

Artistic collaboration: Alexey Reznik, text and voice: Viktoria Strumba, model: Valentina Vyunitskaya

FullHD video, 6min21sec.

The video tells the story of a Ukrainian linen dress through five generations of women. The story is told by the sister of the artist who immigrated young from Ukraine to the United States. The dress was sewn by her great-grandmother in 1930s Ukraine during the Great Famine. It was kept and passed on to her by her grandmother. In the video, the dress is worn by her mother. By transforming the embroidered roses into a field of flowers, the artist highlights the symbolism of embroidery and the strength of intergenerational transmission.
